Everyone finds different things funny, some people hide their pain
through laughter. A lot of comedians use culture, weight and politics to make
jokes. A famous comedian who does that is Kat Williams. There has been several
comedy shows recorded where Kat Williams could have offended someone but they
are seen as funny because he is in the same in-group of the people he are
making jokes about. Famous jokes from Kat Williams are ones about poverty such
as “Gas is so mother'f****in high. Hot Damn gas. Shit!! You are not supposed to
be at the gas station making life decisions. You just at the pump, "Did I
eat today?" "I can get no half a tank, I've got 3 cigarettes."
The joke is only funny because Kat Williams is a minority who has been through
poverty, so people see it as him relating to them making a joke about how life
is. Even though Kat Williams isn’t still in poverty and has money
people still get a sense that he is in their in-group, because he has once been
through what situation they are in. Also, the fact that Not eating and gas are
things that are serious him bringing light to them by comedy make viewers also
laugh because they fell like what he says is truthful and take away from how
provocative the whole scenario is. A lot of Comedy men use this tactic, but it
is not limited to them women do it also. The Famous Comedian Amy Schumer uses
downing herself all the time to create jokes. She consistently talks about her
body, Sexuality and woman parts and how they are not perfect to make people
laugh. Amy makes a lot of jokes about being a woman and doing things that are
not seen as “The Norm” or looked good upon in society by others. For example,
“You feel like such a dirty whore buying plan b. It is so embarrassing because
it’s over the counter, but you have to ask you pharmacist, and they know what
you want but they make you ask. They’re lookin’ at me, I’m like, you see where
my eyeliner is just give it to me”-Amy
Schumer. A lot of people think very provocative jokes are
funny. I know a lot of people that personally use jokes to cover up
their struggles and the seriousness of certain issues going on in the world
this is not just used in comedy but movies, TV Shows and books also. The reason
people do this reaches back to Elementary school days. People love to laugh
when the joke is not on them. People love to feel like they are indifferent or
have a hierarchy to others when laughing at them Laughing brings a sense of
Positive Energy and a Feeling of empowerment when the joke is not directed
towards them. Little does the Audience Realize in contradict comedians flip jokes
in a sense that the audience feel like that they are laughing at the comedian
but in all reality, they are laughing at themselves when jokes are relatable.
